Outsourcing Furniture Delivery in Melbourne: How the Options Compare

If you sell furniture in Melbourne, somebody has to carry it into your customer's living room. We put Transport Haus side by side with Inbox, Move My Stuff, Airtasker and Delivery Plus on price, crews, storage, insurance and how each one looks to your customer.

If you sell furniture in Melbourne, the last thing your customer remembers about the sale is the delivery. The sofa can be perfect, and if two people they have never met scuff the hallway and leave the cardboard on the lawn, that is the story they tell.

Most retailers we talk to have tried more than one way of getting it done. A van and a casual on the payroll. A removalist on call. A marketplace job posted the night before. So here is an honest look at the main options in Melbourne, including us, using only what each company says about itself on its own website. Where a company doesn't say something, we've written "not stated" rather than guess. The sources are listed at the end, checked on 5 November 2026.

Inbox Australia

Inbox is the most complete furniture logistics operation on this list. It works with retailers, importers and interior designers out of depots in Truganina and Sydney. It receives containers, inspects and photographs every item on arrival, stores each piece in its own bay, and consolidates projects for designers before delivering, assembling and placing them. It also runs a weekly service between Melbourne and Sydney.

Where it is stronger than us: scale of warehousing, and Sydney. If you need container unloading at volume or regular interstate transfers, Inbox is built for that and we are not.

Where we differ: Inbox doesn't publish delivery prices, crew size or hours, and its portal is for ongoing clients only. Live delivery status, customer notifications and digital proof of delivery are listed there as coming soon. Its terms recommend that the customer arranges insurance for their own goods. Our crews carry goods in transit insurance, and every delivery already comes with live tracking in your name, a text to your customer and a photo and signature on completion.

Move My Stuff

Move My Stuff is the closest to what we do on the delivery side, and it would be silly to pretend otherwise. It positions itself as a dedicated last mile partner for Melbourne businesses, sends two movers out on every truck, and does assembly, placement and packaging removal. It has a customer portal with instant pricing, real-time tracking and proof of delivery, and offers delivery runs for recurring work.

Where it is stronger than us: it works seven days a week at the same price, including public holidays, and it covers Adelaide as well as Victoria. If Sunday deliveries or South Australia matter to you, that counts.

Where we differ: Move My Stuff charges by the hour, by truck size, so the final bill depends on how the day goes. We quote a fixed price before you book, worked out from the items, the access and the route. That's the figure you're invoiced. And its site doesn't say whether deliveries can run under the retailer's name. Ours do by default (more on that below).

Airtasker

Airtasker isn't a delivery company. It's a marketplace where independent Taskers quote on your job. That makes it quick and often cheap: it shows a Melbourne median of $120 for furniture delivery, with same or next day service.

The trade off is consistency. Each job goes to whoever you pick, so the crew, the equipment, whether there are two people and whether anyone assembles anything all depend on the Tasker. The insurance covers Taskers for their liability to third parties, with an excess the Tasker pays. It excludes faulty workmanship and any task paid outside the platform, and the page doesn't mention goods in transit. Airtasker now sells a business membership, but it doesn't mention consistent crews, branded delivery or proof of delivery.

For a one-off bookcase that's often fine. For a $9,000 sofa going to your best customer, it's a lot to leave to whoever is free.

Delivery Plus

Delivery Plus is a removalist that also does furniture delivery for businesses. It sends two movers per truck, does disassembly and reassembly, keeps customers updated by text and call, and offers scheduled and same day deliveries across Victoria and parts of Sydney and Adelaide.

Two things for a retailer to note. It charges by the hour. And its site says plainly that it does not provide goods in transit insurance: its movers carry public liability, but the goods themselves are not automatically insured. Bookings go through its phone line rather than a portal.

Where Transport Haus fits

We were built for furniture retailers specifically, and most of the differences above come from that.

A fixed price, not a meter. Every quote is a single figure, worked out from the pieces, the floors and lifts at each end, assembly and the drive. It's the figure you're invoiced. A slow lift or a traffic jam on the Eastern doesn't change your bill.

Delivered in your name. When the crew starts the route, your customer gets a text with a tracking link. The tracking page carries your logo and your business name, not ours. Your customer sees your brand from the warehouse to the front door.

Run days, not one-off callouts. Most of our retailers book a recurring half or full day and fill it with that week's deliveries, warranty callouts and showroom resets. You get predictable cost and predictable capacity, and the same crew learns your products.

Proof on every stop. Each delivery is closed off with a photo and the customer's signature, visible in your portal the moment it's done. If a delivery can't be completed, you hear why straight away.

A portal that reads the paperwork. Upload a picking slip and the portal pulls out the items and the customer, prices the job instantly and books it. Fortnightly invoices and a running account statement live in the same place.

Received and checked before it goes out. We can take stock in ahead of the delivery day, inspect it on arrival and hold it until the run, so a damaged piece is caught by us, not your customer.

What we don't do: Sundays, interstate, or warehousing at container scale. If those matter, Inbox, Move My Stuff or Delivery Plus may suit you better, and that's a fair reason to choose them.

How to choose

Ask any delivery partner four questions before you hand over your customers:

1. Will I know the price before the truck leaves? Hourly rates are honest, but they put the risk of a slow day on you.

2. Whose name does my customer see? Every text, email and tracking page is part of your brand.

3. Are the goods themselves insured in transit? Public liability alone doesn't cover the piece being carried.

4. Can I prove it arrived? A photo and a signature end most disputes before they start.

If you'd like to see how a run day would work for your volume, talk to us about retailer deliveries or see how our pricing works.
